The Warriors fan who died at National Sports Stadium in Harare just before the match between Zimbabwe and Congo Brazzaville yesterday has been identified Mai Tadiwa.
She was based in Mutare and was also a CAPS United supporter. Mai Tadiwa died in the presence of her husband, who she had invited all the way from South Africa to come so they could go watch the game together as she had bought him a ticket.
She died after a stampede on Gate 3.
A close relative of hers told ZOOMZimbabwe: “This lady had invited her hubby from to travel all the way from South Africa to watch the Warriors match as she had bought him the ticket.
“The husband obliged and was there at the stadium when tragedy struck. She was trampled by fans jumping fence who were scaling the security fence.”
Meanwhile, videos have been released of the chaotic scenes at the Stadium as fans pushed and shoved each other with the police barely able to handle the situation.
