FLASH FLOODS are expected in some areas of the country with the Metrological Services Department urging people not to cross flooded rivers.
In a weather update report, the MSD said, “Matabeleland North, Harare Metropolitan, Bulawayo Metropolitan, northern areas of the Midlands and all Mashonaland provinces expect mostly cloudy and humid conditions with scattered thundershowers.
“Localized heavy rains are probable in places.
“The provinces of Masvingo, southern areas of Midlands, Matabeleland South and Manicaland should be cool at first, becoming warmer by afternoon with sunny breaks and isolated light showers.
“Meanwhile, heavy rain (in excess of 50mm) occurred yesterday in areas such as Gokwe (123mm), Featherstone, Chikomba district (76mm), Kwekwe (69mm), Victoria Falls (more than 60mm), Nkayi (51mm), and Chivhu (50mm),” reads part of the statement.
The MSD went on to warn people that localized flash flooding may occur in areas with poor drainage.
“Avoid attempting to cross flooded rivers and swollen streams where the depth is unknown.
“Heavy rains tend to reduce visibility, more so at night.
“Strong winds may be destructive in places,” said the Met Dept.
MSD said temperatures with a minimum of 15 degrees and a maximum of 29 degrees will be expected for the next few days.
