Justice Zhou Ruling Sends Riot Police Back On The Streets
A High Court ruling by Justice Zhou granting NAYO the permission to demonstrate and file their petition at parliament has sent riot police back on the streets of Harare.
Several riot police officers were on Tuesday morning deployed at strategic points in the central business district of Harare.
Two riot police trucks full of police officers were parked at Africa Unity Square while several police details were all over Africa Unity Square possibly in preparation for the NAYO demonstration.
Justice Zhou last week overturned a police ban which stopped the NAYO from petitioning parliament over shrinking civil society space.
In his ruling, Justice Zhou said the police ban was wrong and should, therefore, be suspended.
