JUST IN : 27 Arrested In Connection With Harare Violence Freed On $50 Bail Each
A Harare magistrate today freed on $50 bail each 27 people arrested in connection with the violence which rocked Harare last week.
The 27, some of whom were arrested at the MDC Headquarters in Harare comprise of 19 men and 8 women accused of public violence and have been linked to the deaths of six people who died after soldiers fired live ammunition at civilians on Thursday.
The 27 first appeared at Rotten Row magistrates court on Saturday and they were remanded to Monday for the continuation of their bail hearing.
State prosecutor Michael Reza however argued that they should be denied bail on the basis that they would commit similar offenses, intimidate witnesses and abscond trial.
“There’s more than a likelihood that they will reoffend, they will intimidate witnesses, they will interfere with evidence and they will not attend trial.
These are people with unfinished work business outside. The deaths of six people… are directly linked to the accused.”
