Joana Mamombe Returns To Remand Prison After Appearing In Court
MDC member of parliament, Joana Mamombe who has the unwanted distinction of being the first woman to be charged with treason will have to endure another night at the Harare Remand Prison.
This comes after Mamombe had court hearings today to determine if she should be placed on remand. The court hearing was concluded today but the Magistrate has postponed the ruling to tomorrow.
The charges against Mamombe stem from the January protests against an increase in the price of fuel. Mamombe’s lawyers have argued that she is improperly before the court as she was abducted by people who did not identify themselves as police officers.
They also argue that she was not presented at the courts within the 48 hours prescribed by the constitution.
