Jah Prayzah “Ditches” Military Uniforms As Pressure Mounts
Contemporary musician Jah Prayzah, real name Mukudzei Mukombe, has seemingly ditched his trademark military style army combat fatigues for his band.
The musician is reported to have engaged the services of prominent designer Thembani Mubochwa, to making outfits for him and his band as he makes changes to his brand.
The musician is the cultural ambassador of the Zimbabwe National Army, something which may be hurting his image as after the army was accused of perpetrating human rights violations in the crackdown following the January fuel protests.
At least 17 people are reported to have died while others were raped when President Emmerson Mnangagwa deployed the army to “silence” protestors.
However, Jah Prayzah’s manager Keen Mushapaidze said the changes were seasonal and were rather coy on confirming if the changes were permanent. Speaking to The Standard, Mushapaidze said,
I don’t think we can say he has dumped military attire. The official position is that he has been wearing different uniforms over the years and it depends on what inspires him at that particular time. On whether we will see the band dressing in army uniforms in the future, only time will tell.
There has been a campaign on social media, albeit an unsuccessful one so far, to mute Jah Prayzah by deleting all his music and boycotting all his musical shows.
