Local Government Minister July Moyo has downplayed as “inconsequential” his sensational drubbing by the opposition in the just ended general elections.
Moyo, a long-time confidant of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, had targeted Redcliff constituency but got stopped in his tracks by Lloyd Mukapiko of the opposition MDC Alliance.
Opening up for the first time, after his defeat, Moyo said; “I was contesting in the parliamentary elections for Redcliff Constituency.
“I don’t begrudge anyone and hold any vengeance against anyone in the constituency since we have important programs for the constituency and the country.”
The minister was addressing mourners at Msasa Cemetery in Kwekwe during the burial of Midlands State University (MSU) student Brain Konzo, (27, who was stabbed to death by his brother Luckson Konzo.
Luckson, said to be a mental patient, is currently in police custody.
“My loss is inconsequential because President Mnangagwa won, and that means victory for everyone,” said Moyo.
He said Mnangagwa had done well over the past eight months and would use the fresh mandate to focus of creating jobs for the unemployed.
“All those who are unemployed, opportunities are going to be availed and everyone is going to be employed. Government is seized with the matter we have programmes in place,” Moyo.
“We have important programs which we are going to put in place. Zisco must start to function whether we like it or not Zisco must be operational.
“With President Mnangagwa at the helm it is going to operate.”
The veteran politician added that his own projects in the constituency would complement those of MP-elect Mukapiko who is currently employed by Redcliff municipality as a graveyard assistant.
