High Court reserves judgement on bail application for MDC trio

THE High Court has reserved judgment on the bail appeal by three MDC Alliance members who are being charged for communicating false statements.

High Court Judge, Justice Davison Foroma has indefinitely reserved judgment on the bail ruling of an appeal by legislator Joana Mamombe and two other MDC Alliance members Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova who are facing charges of communicating false statements and obstructing the course of justice.

In their submissions, the trio told the court that Harare magistrate, Bianca Makwande erred in denying them bail on the basis that they have the propensity to abscond.

The State stood by its submission that the trio should not be granted bail as they might abscond given the overwhelming evidence against them.

The three made headlines after claiming that they had been abducted soon after staging an illegal demonstration in Warren Park and reportedly found in Muchapondwa village in Bindura a few days later.

The state told the court that they have video footage and statements from eyewitnesses who saw the three walkings freely at the alleged time of the abduction.
