. . .Senior nurses also down tools

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has opened up 650 posts for health workers in order to adequately staff quarantine and isolation centres.

The Ministry shared the developments on their Twitter handle yesterday.

The tweet read:

‘Additional 650 posts for health workers have been opened up at @MoHCCZim in order to adequately staff quarantine and isolation centres.’

The overwhelming threat of Covid-19 to Zimbabwean lives has contributed to the opening of these posts in addition to the 4000 nurses that were added in March to strengthen the country’s frontline health personnel.

This week Zimbabwe crossed the 500 case mark and the cases are now at 525 with 64 recoveries and six deaths.

Meanwhile, Sisters in Charge at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals were yesterday reported to have downed tools citing incapacitation.

This follows a letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, the senior nurses which said they have decided to participate in industrial action after their employer, the Health Services Board, has delayed in addressing their demands.

Contacted for comment, the hospital’s Head of Public Relations Linos Dhire said they were yet to see the letter.

“We have also seen the letter circulating on social media platforms but we await to receive it officially, probably we will be getting it tomorrow (today),” he said.

The nurses in their letter also added that their incapacitation is not doing any good to the patients as Covid-19 rages on.
