Hardware manager convicted
Harare magistrate Francis Mapfumo yesterday convicted Bhola Hardware branch manager and ordered him to restitute $12071.42 to his employer after founding him guilty of theft of trust property charges.
Guelabhai Nup Manubhai, 33, had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Mapfumo initially sentenced Manubhai to 18 months imprisonment before suspending four months on condition of good behavior.
He also suspended another six months on condition that Manubhai restitutes $12071.42 to Bhola Hardware before November 30.
The remaining eight months were commuted to 280 hours of community service at Harare magistrates’ court.
Facts were that during the period extending from January to 2019 Manubhai sold hardware stock on behalf of Bhola Hardware and converted it to his own use.
The court heard that the matter came to light when a stock take was carried out on March 7 2019 and a shortfall was discovered.
It was alleged that a police report was made and upon interviewing Manubhai he failed to account for the missing stock leading to his arrest.
