HARARE No Longer SAFE,Woman Kidnapped After Boarding Kombi In Meyrick Park
In a very concerning development, a lady only identified by her username of Fi Fie was almost kidnapped by a commuter omnibus crew after she boarded their kombi in Meyrick Park.
The victim in this particular case boarded the kombi which had six passengers plus the driver and the conductor which was heading to town. However, the kombi diverted from the usual route which led the victim to question what was going on. Sensing that all was not as it appeared, she demanded to be dropped off immediately and started fighting with the conductor to open the door. She was only saved when some good Samaritans who were in a private vehicle saw the commotion and blocked the kombi. Narrating her ordeal in her own words, Fi Fie said,
This kombie picked me up from Meyrick Park shops. It was 8 guys including the driver and conductor. So I get in they’re like we’re going via Warren Park. I said that’s not the usual route. One of them says we just want to pick up something then go to town. At this point am concerned. They’re not stopping for anyone else either. And am asking myself why is nobody else saying something. I tell them to drop me off at the next stop they refuse. At that point ndasimuka am clutching the door. All of a sudden a car pulled up to block the kombie and these guys in panic mode I think pushed me out. One of the guys who was in the car is the one who took that picture. Hanzi we just felt something was amiss .
This is particularly worrying as two ladies have been murdered in the past few weeks while a third one, Zaleekhah Khan, was brutally assaulted, robbed and dumped in Ridgeview. The two who were murdered are Samantha Hlahla who was discovered dead at her apartment in the Avenues on Monday night and Prudence Gold Madzadzavara who was brutally murdered in Eastlea last week. Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) National Spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba has advised women not to be cautious. Said Charamba
” We also urge women to avoid walking in secluded places. If at home lock doors.”
