Harare Man Tells Court He Is Gay
A Harare man, who was dragged to court on allegations of ambushing and grabbing a woman’s privates, told court officials on Monday that he was gay.
The accused Musawenkosi Maparara (23), could not hide his sexual orientation when appeared before a Harare magistrate facing indecent assault charges.
The accused told the court that he was being framed as his sexual orientation placed him far from any affection towards people of the opposite sx.
“I did not touch her. i had no reasons to grab her private parts as I’m not even interested in women? I like men; so I wouldn’t dare lay a finger on her because I’m gay,” he said.
The complainant in the matter is a 25-year-old Mbare woman.
Court heard the incident occurred on September 8 this year at corner Robson Manyika and Julius Nyerere way in Harare’s CBD.
According to the State, the woman was looking for transport to take her home when Maparara suddenly emerged and went on to grab her breasts and buttocks.
The woman realised she had in fact met Maparara earlier on the day at Ligi bar in the city centre.
However, some reports say the two had a confrontation earlier on and that the complainant insulted Maparara calling him “ngochani” (gay).
She then reported the case leading to Maparara’s arrest.
Maparara was released on free bail and was not asked to plead.
