Harare City Council Rakes In 1,5million From Vendors
Harare City Council raked $1,5 million from vendors in 2018, full council meeting minutes have revealed.
The figure was, however, lower than the Council’s projected income. Read part of minutes from the full Council meeting:
“Revenue collection had declined by 23,39% during the year under review compared to the previous year.
The decline in revenue collection was attributed to the following challenges: inadequate funding for informal sector projects, political interference in the allocation of market stalls to vendors and revenue collection and economic hardship, resulting in traders failing to pay market fees to Council.
Meanwhile, the Council launched a blitz targetting illegal vendors and tuckshop owners in various high-density suburbs.”
