Gwanda pneumonia cases could be a coronavirus COVID-19
A PNEUMONIA outbreak appears to have hit the country, raising fears the coronavirus might be spreading undetected.
Pneumonia, a lung disease characterized by inflammation of the airspaces in the lungs, is one of the COVID-19 symptoms.
Trusted sources in Matabeleland South province told this publication that patients presented to Gwanda hospital over the past two days but were quickly discharged.
“There are about three patients, one of which fell sick aboard a Bulawayo bound bus from South Africa and he was dropped at the hospital (Gwanda).
All three patients were discharged after the medical practitioners established that it was pneumonia,” a source close to developments said. The patients were not tested due to a shortage of test kits.
One patient is said to have died on his way to Bulawayo. “A local surgery also had more cases of pneumonia and I hope it is contained,” the source added.
