Grandpa and wife ARRESTED for running stock theft
An elderly couple in Matabeleland has been nabbed for cattle rustling and selling the meat in their home.
The duo’s racket was only put to an end after a tip-off in which the Tshabalala police managed to lure the suspects by pretending to be customers in need of cheap beef.
Because of the burgeoning market, the couple had hired someone to sit by Emganwini flea market to help by giving customers directly to their home.
”The undercover police approached the man at the flee market and told him that they wanted directions to the house where meat was said to be sold at a reasonable price. He accompanied them and upon arrival they found the packed meat in one of the rooms resulting in their arrest,” said the source.
Faniya Ngwenya (67) and wife Veronica Tshabalala (52) are said to have been capitalising on the exorbitant price of beef, to sell cheap beef from stolen cattle and had a growing market.
” Whenever you saw them coming back with their bicycles loaded, you definitely knew that the meat was available and within a short period it got finished.”
A report by the B-Metro revealed that a police source, close to the investigations confirmed the crime and further revealed that a pellet gun with 315 rounds and handcuffs were found at the couple’s residence and will be used as an exhibit in court.
Efforts to get a comment from Matabeleland South police spokesperson Chief inspector Philisani Ndebele where futile as he was said to be out of office.
