The Minister of Energy and Power Development, Ambassador Simon Khaya-Moyo says the government is pleased with the increase in the number of reported corruption cases which is reflective of a paradigm shift under the new political dispensation.

He challenged all stakeholders to embrace as well as advocate for zero tolerance to corruption. This came up during a 4-day anti-corruption conference in Victoria Falls, which was attended delegates, who include local authorities’ executives and public utilities officials.

The state of corporate governance, presidential decree on zero tolerance to corruption, procurement reforms and the Anti-Money Laundering Act provisions came under the spotlight at the forum.

In a speech read on his behalf, Ambassador Khaya-Moyo said the increase in the number of reported corruption cases in encouraging, adding that embracing zero tolerance to corruption is critical in transforming the domestic economy.

“The courts are now more seized with various corruption cases. Such figures of reported cases have never been reached before, and a number of public officers has been suspended,” he said.

The cabinet minister also challenged delegates to take a leading role in preventing, detecting and reporting corruption.

Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) Deputy Chairperson, Dr Nanette Silukhuni said the thrust of the new political dispensation has given the organisation an impetus to deliver on its mandate.

“There is need for a shared vision is fighting corruption. On our part, we have intensified efforts to tackle the vice under our turnaround plan,” said Dr Silukhuni.

The government is in the process of setting up specialised anti-corruption courts to ensure that all fraud cases are dealt with expeditiously.
