Gaddafi’s Son Hires Local Lawyer As He Fights To Be Released From Prison
Abhallha Mone Moussa Moummare, the adopted son of the slain former leader of Libya Muammar Gaddafi has secured the services of top lawyer Charles Warara in his bid to be released from Harare Remand Prison.
Moumare has been held without trial at the prison for the past five years after he escaped from Libya to seek asylum in Zimbabwe. Instead of the asylum, however, he was detained and incarcerated at the remand no prison with no charges.
Warara confirmed the matter saying, Yes, I have been engaged to assist him to seek legal recourse as he had been on remand for many years and whatever his case is, it should come to an end.
Warara is an experienced litigant who is more well known for being the man who nailed former Bikita West Zanu-PF MP Munyaradzi Kereke for raping his 11-year-old niece at gunpoint. Kereke had managed to escape justice for more than five years after then Prosecutor-General Johannes Tomana declined to prosecute the matter citing insufficient evidence.
Warara had to fight Tomana to get a certificate of private prosecution which they only received after the Constitutional Court dismissed his case and found Tomana to be in contempt of court for refusing to issue the certificate as previously directed.
Warara managed to get Kereke convicted as a private prosecutor resulting in the former Zanu-PF being sentenced to an effective 10-years in prison.
