Former Zimra Top Boss Arrested
Former Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) commissioner-general Gershem Pasi has been arrested on charges of criminal abuse of office. Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed Pasi’s arrest to NewsDay saying,
I can confirm that Pasi has been arrested. He is likely to appear in court tomorrow (today). He is being charged with contravening section 174 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act as a public officer.
Pasi resigned from Zimra last years after spending close to a year on suspension of after allegations of corruption and gross misconduct following a vehicle import scam. Pasi later claimed that he had walked away empty-handed despite 35 years of government service and was struggling to get his terminal benefits from the state revenue collector. In an interview, Pasi said,
For the 35 years in government service, I walked away with nothing. I am struggling now to get the small terminal benefits due to me and the leave days I had accumulated and that same car they accused me of registering as a (Toyota) Vitz, they took it away. So I walked away without even the vehicle I was supposed to be offered at book value. So I walked away with nothing.
