ED Critic Misses Own Daughter’s Funeral Fearing Mnangagwa Retribution
Self-exiled former Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and G40 Faction member, Mandi Chimene, failed to attend her own daughter’s funeral apparently fearing retribution from President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Chimene was a vocal critic of Mnangagwa before he became president and immediately fled the country when the military took over in November 2017 and has not been seen in Zimbabwe since. Her daughter Ellen Zimondi passed away in December at the age of 35 and was buried in Westlea, Mutare.
Sources who spoke to New Zimbabwe said,
“Chimene did not pitch up for her daughter`s funeral and burial. She probably feared for her life or persecution since she was a fierce critic of President Mnangagwa,”
Chimene is believed to hiding out in Mozambique.
