Drama as couple claims nurses replaced their baby with a dead one.
CITE reports that there were protests in the town after the couple, Juliet Dube (23) and Faison Nyathi (30), accused the hospital of the malpractice after the incident happened in August 2018.
There was chaos in Victoria Falls after the distraught parents of a dead baby accused nurses at Victoria Falls Hospital of switching their newborn baby with an infant that they had dropped by accident.
A post-mortem carried out by a Pathologist in Bulawayo at the request of the couple confirmed that the child had died due to head injuries which resulted in a standoff between the couple and the hospital.
The nine-month standoff was only resolved after the parents and the hospitals carried out separate DNA tests to prove the paternity of the baby. Both tests proved that the dead infant belongs to the couple. District Health practitioner Wisdom Kurauone, told CITE
We conducted our tests at the National University of Science and Technology where we took blood samples of the mother and it was a match. The family also conducted theirs at a secret laboratory and we just noted that it was at Global Health Laboratory in Harare and the two have corresponded
We never doubted the results because our staff is professional, so for now we will ask the Nyathi family to give us a written apology for the negative image we have been getting and death threats before we move on the family is still welcome to seek medical help from us.
The infant’s body which is reported to have been in an advanced state of decomposition was finally buried on Tuesday.
