Don’t Be Fooled By Strive Masiyiwa, He Is Fighting For Workers To Be Paid Peanuts
Self-exiled Zimbabwean telecommunications mogul and founder of Econet Wireless, Strive Masiyiwa is no friend of workers and has made his fortune by exploiting Zimbabwean workers.
These are the stunning allegations which were made by International Socialist Organisation (ISO) leader and trade unionist Munyaradzi Gwisai at a summit to exchange views on Zimbabwe’s challenges which was organised by the SIVIO Institute (SI). Gwisai who is also a lawyer claimed that Masiyiwa is fighting to weaken workers’ rights and wants employees to be paid peanuts.
The vocal trade unionist is quoted by New Zimbabwe as saying,
I think there is a naïve belief of class unity of Strive Masiyiwa, trade unions and peasants when he talks about a vision when he talks about the people of Zimbabwe.
Strive Masiyiwa and Tsitsi (his wife) were worth less than US$500 million at the end of 2017 or beginning of 2018. Today, one year later, and as a result of this world advanced bidding of Ecocash, Strive Masiyiwa’s net value now is at least US$1.4 billion.
But the same Strive Masiyiwa is at the forefront of fighting for casualisation of labour, outsourcing labour, fighting trade unions, fighting the right to strike and in ensuring that workers are paid peanuts…He is a capitalist whose interest are profits through the exploitation of labour.
The businessman has not responded to the remarks. However, in January Masiyiwa was briefly involved in a social media war with former Cabinet Minister Jonathan Moyo after the two fell out over the criticism which Mayisiwa’s wife had received after she spoke out against some fights for justice.
