A suspected drug dealer who made the headlines last week after she was reportedly found in possession of cocaine worth over $7 million was back in court yesterday where she pleaded not guilty.

Shila Khumalo, 50, pleaded not guilty when she was asked to plead by Chief Magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi.

When Khumalo initially appeared in court, she was being charged for illegal possession of the dangerous drug which the State yesterday amended to illegal dealing in cocaine which she pleaded not guilty to.

The State led by Tinashe Makiya alleges that on May 10, Khumalo of Johannesburg in South Africa arrived in Zimbabwe with a contraband of cocaine aboard on Ethiopian Airways flight.

The police had received a tip off the previous day and a team of detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, CIO and ZIMRA and were waiting for her to arrive and when she got to arrivals, she was intercepted and a search was conducted.

The police recovered 53 small plastic pallets she had excreted and stashed in her underwear and excreted five other pellets of cocaine when she was in police custody and it went under preliminary field tests and it tested positive for cocaine.

The seized cocaine weighs 975 grams and has a street value of $7 700 000.

Khumalo was remanded in custody to May 26 for trial commencement.
