A SELF-STYLED traditional healer has appeared in court for killing his client during a cleansing ceremony.
The healer, Isaac Tete (26) of Athens Compound, Chinhoyi, appeared before Chinhoyi provincial magistrate Melody Rwizi, who was charged with murder.
The State heard that he bashed his client Vunganai Munyengedzi to death using a log claiming that he was attacking goblins during the exorcism.
He was granted $10 000 bail with stringent conditions.
He will appear again in court on April 1.
Prosecuting, Tapiwa Dapi told the court that between January 9 and 11 at Long Valley Plots, Murereka in Lions Den, Tete — who was arrested last Thursday — was performing a healing and cleansing ceremony aimed at getting rid of goblins he claimed were tormenting the now deceased Munyengedzi.
The court heard that during the exorcism, Tete picked up a log and beat up Munyengedzi all over his body. He sustained serious injuries from the violent act and was rushed to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital where he was admitted, but died the same day.
The accused was represented by Joshua Mangeyi’s law firm.
