CHOMBO ARRESTED AGAIN FOR WEARING ZANU-PF REGALIA
Former finance minister Ignatius was Friday among embattled members of the G40 faction arrested for wearing Zanu PF regalia.
Others are former Zanu PF national youth chair Kudzai Chipanga and former youth commissar Innocent Hamandishe.Their arrest comes after their images went viral on social media. They were wearing caps emblazoned with the initials ED (Mnangagwa).
The three’s arrest follows a stern warning from the ruling party national spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo who accused them of “mischief”.
Their lawyer Lovemore Madhuku confirmed the arrest.
“My clients have been arrested, I am with my clients and they are being charged of criminal nuisance for wearing ruling party regalia,” said Madhuku.
“I am currently with them at the Law and Order.”
The trio were expelled from the ruling party after the military coup which ousted former president Robert Mugabe last month.
Their latest arrest comes after Chombo was arrested this week again and charged with a 1997 corruption case.
Chombo, Chipanga and Hamandishe are also facing various offences and are all on bail with stringent conditions.
In his earlier statement, Moyo said the expelled members have no entitlement to wear party regalia and have no right to represent president Mnangagwa
“Their actions constitute serious criminal conduct and are therefore abhorred in the strongest terms,” Moyo said.
“These truant individuals are obviously bent on soiling the good name of the party and that of its president and first secretary.”
