CHIWENGA ADDRESSES SPECIAL CONFERENCE FOLLOWING GRANDPA’S RESIGNATION
Following the resignation of President Mugabe, the Zimbabwe Defence and Security Services has appealed to all Zimbabweans across the political divide to exercise maximum restraint and observe law and order to the fullest.
Addressing a media briefing in Harare today, Commander ZDF General Constantino Chiwenga made the appeal in Harare against the backdrop of the latest developments in Zimbabwe which saw the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Cde Robert Mugabe resigning.
General Chiwenga said Zimbabwe’s vaunted character and tradition as a peaceful and law abiding nation must now show in practical terms through unconditional observance of the law.
He added the country’s security forces and law enforcement agencies will be out in full force to ensure that law and order is observed, life and property are secured.
The General also said acts of vengeful retribution or trying to settle scores will be dealt with severely and above all he encouraged religious organisations across denominations to pray for peace and stability in Zimbabwe.
In the same vein, General Chiwenga encouraged students to be well-behaved and concentrate on their studies and further appealed to everyone to avoid abusing the social media or any other platform to inflame feelings or incite public disorder in the country.
He also urged the business community to go about their normal operations as always.
General Chiwenga added that the Defence and Security Services expect maximum cooperation from all members of the public who must observe the country’s laws to the fullest.
