Chitungwiza man nabbed for card cloning

A Chitungwiza man landed in the dock yesterday accused of illegal use of a debit card after he reportedly cloned a card and stole over $180 000.

The suspect Jeremiah Mwanjira 32, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi who remanded him in custody to today for bail considerations.

The complainant is Adolph Kumbirai Gusha, the retired Town Clerk of Masvingo City Council.

The court heard that last month, Mwanjira acted in connivance with his accomplice only known as Ian Tafirenyika Samuriwo and Tinashe who are still at large to clone Gusha’s ZB Bank card.

It is alleged that on October 30, at around 1pm, the three went to N.Richards wholesalers and Mwanjira went into the shop and went to till number 10 which was being operated by Emily Jena.

Using the cloned card, Mwanjira bought 25 boxes of cooking oil, polony, a box of Cerevita and an energy drink all worth $182 854.

In the second count, the complainant is Logic Chimwai.

It is alleged that on the same till, Mwanjira used Chimwai’s cloned card and bought Viceroy Brandy but the till operator became suspicious and advised the CCTV monitor Farai Karikoga and Fawcett guards who were on duty leading to Mwanjira’s arrest.
