Chinese Nationals Under Fire For ‘Abusing Young Girls’ In Mutoko

This was confirmed by Mutoko Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Peter Sigauke. Speaking on the sidelines of the launch by the Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA) of the national report on the state of business and human rights in the mining sector.

“We have received such reports from our councillors and lobby groups but the main problem with the Chinese is they do not have any contact person so if you go there you are told the contact person has gone to China or Harare” said Sigauke

Sigauke says they have reported the cases to the police and investigation are underway but at a snail’s pace something which he attributed to clandestine deals.

“We have taken the matters to the police and they are investigating and they are delaying may be in connivance with the police” he said

Evelyn Kutyauripo a resident in Mutoko concurred with Sigauke saying parents now fear for the worst.

“When the Chinese came to our community it was in good faith however, they have taken advantage of poverty situation to abuse women and children something that raises fear to parents. They are se_xually abusing young girls. Report have been taken to the Human Rights Commission and they looking into the matter” said Kutyauripo

Chinese nationals have for long taken advantage of locals physically abusing them especially in the mining sector.
