Chief Begs US Ambassador To Lift Sanctions
Chief Murinye born Ephias Munodawafa of Masvingo has begged United States Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Brian Nichols to have his country lift the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.
Chief Murinye begged the United States to lift the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe saying that ordinary people were suffering from the effects of the sanctions. Giving a vote of thanks after the US donated US$475 000 the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) at Great Zimbabwe Monuments, Chief Murinye said,
My message to you (Ambassador Nichols) is that please tell the great American President (Mr Donald) Trump to lift sanctions on Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe is reeling from those sanctions. Tell him to have mercy on us and lift the sanctions.
In August, the United States renewed sanctions on Zimbabwe after President Donald Trump signed into law the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Amendment Act.
The Bill was passed by the United States Congress in July and sets tough conditions for Zimbabwe to re-engage with the United States of America.
United States diplomat, Christopher Hunnicutt insisted that the amendments were designed to push for political and economic reforms and were not about President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.
