Former MDC spokesperson, Obert Gutu who is also the former MDC-T (Khupe)’s Vice President has said he joined the ruling ZANU PF to contribute to the growth of the nation.

Advocate Gutu made the remarks after meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the State House in the capital on Wednesday. He said:

We feel we are here to contribute to the development of the country. Speaking entirely for myself, I am not position-oriented. I know some people will say Gutu wants this post or that post, that’s far from it.

We are here to play our part albeit a small part for the development of this country and the Vision which the Second Republic has fashioned for this country, Vision 2030 which is achievable with the right mindset and skills set.

He stepped down as MDC spokesperson in 2018 citing disagreements with MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa on how to run the affairs of the party.

Gutu who has since then been critical of his homeboy Nelson Chamisa a stance some say was out of jealousy or because he was a ZANU PF agent.

He once served as Deputy Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs during the inclusive Government (2009-2013).

He assumed the vice presidency of the MDC-T then led by Thokozani Khupe following the split that occurred when MDC founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai succumbed to cancer in 2018.
