Cartels have captured ZACC, judiciary, and Zanu-PF: Prosecutor-General
The prosecution of criminal and corrupt cartels is proving to be difficult because the cartels have captured the judiciary, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) as well as political parties, Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi has revealed.
National radio Star FM says Hodzi made the startling revelations Monday morning in Bulawayo during a capacity building workshop on anti-corruption for POLAD Economic Thematic Committee.
Hodzi said it was proving difficult for his department to effectively deal with cartels in the country due to alleged protection they enjoyed from the media, political parties and the ZACC.
Although Hodzi did not mention the ruling party by name, observers were left convinced that it was the only party that wielded political and authoritative control over the prosecution of criminal cases in the country.
“Cartels have captured various institutions including the Police, the media, ZACC and the Judiciary,” Hodzi said.
The revelation comes just a week after the Zanu-PF Politburo suspended youth leaders Lewis Matutu and Godfrey Tsenengamu from the youth league executive after the duo stated that cartels had captured vital State institutions and were wreaking havoc throughout the economy through corruption and underhand dealings.
