Boarding Schools Beg Govt For Permission To Close Early
A number of schools have written to the government requesting permission to close schools early or to be allowed to increase school fees.
The schools have indicated that they do not have sufficient food to last to the end of the term due to the increase in prices which took place. Manicaland provincial education director (PED), Mr Edward Shumba confirmed the matter saying,
Schools should agree with parents first then write a request to my office for approval, but this must be just for the remaining days of the term and not a permanent feature.
Hillcrest school head, Mrs Annie Holman also said
We have asked for a top-up of fees because prices have gone up by at least 60 per cent, which has affected our budget and now we are not going to be able to complete the term if we are to maintain our standards, so we had to ask parents to top up fee.
