A man from Beitbridge is languishing in a South Africa police cell after being arrested on allegations of smuggling explosives from Zimbabwe into that country.
Musina Shoko, also known as Paradza, was arrested together with another man and woman and has failed to pay the R5 000 bail pegged by a Musina magistrate.
He was allegedly carrying the explosives in his car.
South African police spokesperson for Limpopo province Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe yesterday confirmed the development and said Shoko was expected to appear in court today for routine remand.
“He was admitted to R5 000 bail, but failed to raise the amount,” Ngoepe said.
Shoko is suspected of supplying explosives to gangs that hit cash-in-transit vans as well as blow up automated teller machines.
Several Zimbabweans have been intercepted on the South Africa side of Beitbridge with explosives and Ngoepe said police were keen to establish the source.
