Asaph cherishes the Cal_Vin Award

Asaph of Bulawayo hip hop was named the city’s best rapper at the recent Roil Bulawayo Art Awards (RoilBAA). He is grateful for winning the Cal Vin Mgcini Nhliziyo hip hop award.

After Hip Hop King Cal Vin died after a crash in late October, the organizers of RoilBAA decided to commemorate his legacy by officially naming the outstanding Hip Hop Artiste after him.

Since the award was launched in the city, Cal Vin has won the award three times in a row, and Asaph is the first artist to receive this award in fierce competition on the personalized hip-hop stage after Cal Vin.

Asaph was nominated alongside, Fish F. Ndaramu, Msiz’Kay and Preyung (Cal Vin was also nominated).

On the sidelines of the RoilBAAs, Asaph revealed that he was happy to finally win the accolade.

“It feels good to finally win the Best Hip Hop gong, what makes it more special is that it’s now in honour of the late Cal Vin. He was such a great personality and he played his part in making sure Bulawayo and Zim Hip Hop at large gets appreciation in the world.

“With this award I can say, I am accepting the challenge that Cal Vin has left behind, and I know with other Hip Hop guys we will continue doing great in the rap game and continue representing Bulawayo to the fullest,” said Asaph.

The Bulawayo Hip Hop crown had always rotated between the late Cal Vin and his competitor Asaph as the two continuously gave the city an ecstatic ‘beef’ which always kept the streets talking.

With Cal Vin gone and the crown officially inscribed with Asaph’s name, it still remains unknown who else will challenge the “Burg” boy.
