CHICKEN Inn coach Joey Antipas has made a candid admission that his side’s inconsistency is now worrying after being held to a 1-1 draw by Chapungu on Saturday to blow a chance of closing the gap at the top of the standings.
Instead, CAPS United took the advantage and went to win 2-1 at Mushowani yesterday to go five points clear of their opponents.
CAPS’ pressure keep pressure to their rivals in the title race which include Chicken Inn, FC Platinum and ZPC Kariba.
Antipas, however, admits his boys are struggling at critical moments.
Chapungu took the lead in the 18th minute through Denver Mukamba, who converted from the spot, after he was fouled by Liberty Chakoroma in the box.
The Gamecocks got an equaliser in the 68th minute through Innocent Mucheneka who also scored from the spot after Edmore Muzanenhamo handled inside the box.
Antipas also admitted he is missing former striker Clive Augusto as they continue struggling to bury chances.
“We dominated the entire game, the guys gave a good account of themselves. We played some good football, the defense was solid though from another attack we conceded a penalty but a cutting edge is missing,” he said.
“We are losing points that we should be picking, we are struggling right now. Instead of picking points at home we are losing and it’s worrying.
“Clive was our source of goals, we didn’t know that he was going until three days before he left, indeed we miss him,” said Antipas.
The championship winning coach, however, said they will keep fighting hoping for change of fortunes.
“We just have to keep fighting because we don’t know what happens with other results so we will keep pushing.
“We are struggling but in football one thing you should not do is to give up,” he said.
Chapungu coach Weddington Chinyan’anya was happy with the result and said the point was enough for them.
“A point away from home is very important considering that we were playing a good side who are second on the log, I’m happy,” he said.
