Antipas ends ‘platinum affair’
Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas has put an end to the platinum affair that saw FC Platinum’s Norman Mapeza and Tonderai Ndiraya of Ngezi Platinum rotating the coach of the month award since the beginning of the season.
Until Antipas, no other coach had won the monthly award. Ndiraya won the award in March and April whilst FC Platinum’s Mapeza won it in May and June before Antipas claimed the July award.
Chicken Inn are third on the standings with 41 points following a perfect start to the second half of the season, collecting 11 out of the possible 15 points.
Platinum have eight points while Ngezi have 10 points out of the possible 15, on statistics based on the second half of the season.
Chicken Inn dominated the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League July awards, results also suggests Antipas’ men have been better than the two log leaders in the second half of the season and they are yet to taste defeat.
Striker Obrey Chirinda won the player of the month award.
Antipas feels honoured.
“Winning the coach of the month for July, makes me feel honored and I am happy with the gesture.
“It shows that we are being appreciated and people are also noticing our work.
“It good and it’s a blessing at the same time, it is every coach’s desire to be appreciated,” said Antipas.
“I am grateful with the recognition, it shows that our efforts are going to waste.
“The award entails us to keep on working hard. The players also have a role to play in me winning this award,” he added.
Antipas’ next encounter is a derby against Highlanders at Barbourfields on Thursday.
