President Emmerson Mnangagwa will tomorrow chair two crucial Zanu-PF meetings in Harare as he battles to deal with the challenges of Zimbabwe’s worsening economic crisis, as well as mounting discord within the upper echelons of the ruling party.
The Zanu-PF Politburo and Central Committee are meeting on Thursday in Harare.
The meetings will be held at Zanu-PF Headquarters. Zanu-PF secretary for Information and Publicity Simon Khaya confirmed the meetings in a statement.
“It is hereby notified that a Zanu-PF Politburo meeting will be held on Thursday 25 October, 2018 at Party Headquarters at 09:00 hours.
“There will be a Central Committee meeting at 12 noon on the same day and same place. All affected members must be seated as advised,” he said.
The agenda was not indicated, but the meetings are taking place at a time the nation is preparing for a new farming season and the ruling party annual conference set for Gwanda in Matabeleland South.
Mnangagwa is currently in Zambia for a series of engagements which include the 54th independence anniversary of Zambia and a host of bilateral economic cooperation discussions.
Zambia attained its independence from Britain on October 24, 1964 and in turn offered support to Zimbabwe’s quest for freedom. The two countries enjoy close ties and are implementing several joint projects together.
President Mnangagwa is accompanied by Industry and Commerce Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu and Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, who is also the Presidential Press Secretary, Mr George Charamba.
