AFCON 2019 Update: Warriors Vs The Cranes.

Afcon 2019 Zimbabwe warriors versus Uganda. The AFCON 2019 tournament is well under way in Egypt. The Warriors faced Egypt in the opening game. Egypt won the game 1 – 0. The Warriors played well but Egypt was the stronger team on the day and had a home advantage.

WarriorsOur boys did not go down without a fight. Our neighbors down South, Bafana Bafana also lost their first game of the tournament against a strong Ivory Coast on Monday. Ivory Coast beat Bafana Bafana 1 – 0 and topping group D with 3 point with Morocco.

The next game for The Warriors is against a strong Ugandan team, who is currently sitting at the top of Group A with three points. Egypt is second in Group A with only a goal difference separating the two sides from the top spot on Group A. The game will be played at the Cairo International Stadium. Uganda would like to cement their place at the top of the group. This is an important game for our Warriors who still need to hit the back of the net in this tournament.

A win for Zim would boost their confidence for their last game in the group stages against The Democratic Republic of Congo. A win would also put them in the knock out stages of the tournament. DR Congo lost their first match against Uganda with 2 – 0 to put them in the bottom of Group A.

The Warriors coach Sunday Marimo Chidzambwa is well aware of the fact that two of their top players would not be participating in this game. Mushekwi and Sibanda will not be playing due to injuries sustained from the game against Egypt but keeper George Chigova is back in the field following a yellow card suspension. Coach Chidzambwa believes that George Chigova brings enough experience to fill the gap.

Meanwhile, our cricket team is unfortunately not participating in this year’s ICC Cricket World cup in England. South Africa’s Proteas is the only team that is representing Africa at this competition. The Proteas has already been relegated from the Cricket World Cup with the worst results the team has ever suffered.

All on eyes will be on The Warriors for their next two matches in Egypt. What are your predictions?
