A First For Trump, Wears Mask In The Public As COVID-19 Cases Surge

United States President Donald Trump was on Saturday wearing a face mask in the public for the first time, since the outbreak of COVID-19, when he visited Walter Reed army hospital where he was to meet with wounded soldiers and front-line healthcare workers.

This comes as coronavirus cases in that country have breached the 3 million mark while fatalities have also breached the 134 000 bleak milestones.

Trump previously said he had resolved not to wear a face mask after some people who saw him wearing it said he “looked like a Lone Ranger.” He had also said wearing a face mask was a personal choice.

Speaking to reporters at the White House just before his visit to Walter Reed, Trump said:

I think when you are in a hospital, especially in that particular setting when you are talking to a lot of soldiers, people that in some cases just got off the operating table, I think it’s a great thing to wear a mask.

Health experts have recommended the wearing of face masks saying it reduces the chances of the transmission of masks.

The development comes when the World Health Organisation (WHO) has admitted the possibility of airborne transmission.
