Former Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala launches a new movement called the National Democratic Working Group (NDWG), aiming to liberate the masses from political constraints.
Sikhala’s decision to establish the NDWG follows his departure from the troubled Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party in February, subsequent to his release from prison for inciting violence linked to the death of an opposition political activist.
According to Darlington Chingwena, head of information and communication for NDWG, the movement prioritizes the desires and ambitions of the people. Chingwena stated, “The NDWG is a grassroots movement driven by democratic forces in Zimbabwe, determined to establish a solid foundation for people to express their aspirations and chart the way forward.”
He further emphasized the NDWG’s objective of mobilizing the masses for the eventual convening of the National Democratic People’s Convention. This convention aims to facilitate discussions on people’s ideas and feedback, ultimately leading to the formation of a mass-based democratic movement striving to assume government power.

Chingwena highlighted the perceived failures of existing democratic alternatives in seizing crucial opportunities. He underscored the urgent need to address ongoing challenges facing Zimbabweans, including poverty, oppression, and electoral theft.
During the NDWG’s inaugural meeting, delegates from across Zimbabwe and various organizations unanimously agreed to establish provincial democratic working groups. These groups, comprising representatives from diverse sectors, will gather people’s views through group meetings held at ward and district levels.
Additionally, the NDWG emphasizes inclusivity in addressing Zimbabwe’s socio-economic and political issues. Chingwena stressed the importance of involving the masses in finding solutions, with plans to convene a National Democratic People’s Convention where 5,000 delegates will deliberate on the way forward.
