“45 Degree” Commander Promoted AGAIN By Mnangagwa
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has promoted on retirement four senior military generals, all with the ranks of Major General (or the Air Force equivalent of Air Vice Marshal). The former Major Generals are now Lieutenant Generals while the former Air Vice Marshal is now an Air Marshal.
The four newly promoted officers are Lieutenant General Martin Chedondo, Lieutenant General Douglas Nyikayaramba, Lieutenant General Anselem Sanyatwe and Air Marshal Sheba Shumbayawonda. Of interest is General Anselem Sanyatwe who was only promoted to the rank of Major General in December. He made headlines during the Motlanthe Commission of Inquiry hearings when he claimed that the soldier who was recorded firing his gun into the crowd was actually firing his gun into the air as the gun was at a 45-degree angle.
The promotions came barely a month after Mnangagwa retired the four militaries and redeployed them to the diplomatic services. Speaking at the ceremony to confer the new ranks on the generals Commander ZDF General Philip Valerio Sibanda said,
We urge you to continue working hard as you used to before.
The promotions on retirement entitle the generals to receive their benefits and pensions on a higher scale as they will be calculated using their ranks.
