3 UK returnees at Belvedere Teachers College test positive to COVID-19
According to Deputy Director of Epidemiology and Disease Control in the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Dr Isaac Phiri, the group which is currently quarantined at Belvedere Teachers’ College, underwent tests soon after their arrival.
He also added that they would be tested again after seven days.
Following the groups’ arrival, there was a massive uproar on social media after reports surfaced alleging that they were resisting compulsory quarantine at the College citing poor conditions and preferred to be accommodated in a hotel.
However, the returning residents have since shot down the allegations and accused the government of deliberately fabricating facts to tarnish them.
To date, the total number of COVID-19 cases stands at 28, with four deaths and two recoveries. The most recent death was recorded on Wednesday.
The deceased is an 82-year-old woman from Mhondoro, Mashonaland West province who, shockingly, had no recent travel history. She died at Westend private hospital in Harare.
