20 Harsh Truths Every Young Zimbabwean Man Should Understand!
It’s a good thing to show love and compassion to everyone. But, it’s also important to understand who should be in your inner circle, and who you should keep at a distance or even avoid.
Proverbs 13:20 says, “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”
1. No one will save you
The day you realize this is the day your freedom starts. Not a person. Not the government. No one will come to take your hand and guide you. You will have to do it on your own.
Take responsibility as soon as possible.
2. You will die
Death is inevitable, whether you like it or not. Don’t be the man that lives like he is immortal. Your time is limited. And you better make use of that time.
The sooner you realize this, the better.
3. Adulthood isn’t about a number
There are 40-year-old boys and 20-year-old men. Whether you are an adult or not, is dependent on your attitude towards life. Internalize this.
You will grow quicker.
4. You aren’t entitled to anything
Nothing is given to you. You don’t deserve wealth or happiness, just because you are born. You will have to earn it. Work hard for them.
A good life is on the other side.
5. Nothing good ever comes easy
You will have to work hard for what you want. Don’t expect the good things in life to come without a grafting effort. Nothing sweet ever tastes as good without the bitter.
You need contrast.
6. Humility will serve you
No one likes a cocky guy. You should work on your confidence, but never come across as arrogant. Be humble. Flex through your actions, not your words.
Do great things without bragging.
7. Time is limited
Not only will you die, but you will also go through the different phases of life in a heartbeat. Childhood, adolescence, adulthood. Before you know it you are old and cripple.
Make sure you do the things you set out to do.
8. Embrace your masculinity
As a man, you should be proud of what you are. The chance you are born a male is literally 50/50. You have your traits for a reason.
Make sure you put them to use.
9. Stop explaining yourself
You don’t need to explain yourself to people. You choose your actions. And owe nothing to anyone. Don’t go through life apologizing for everything you do.
Live ruthlessly unapologetic.
10. Life is about giving, not taking
You won’t become happy through constantly taking, as it often includes pleasure. You want to receive the benefits of pleasure activities. But true happiness is found by giving.
This will fulfill you.
11. Face your challenges (or they will face you)
To crush life, you must conquer your challenges. By picking them out, you choose your struggle. If you don’t, life will do it for you. The struggle is inevitable.
Better be picky.
12. Patience is a must
Nothing good will ever come quick, nor easy. Putting in 1% each day will accumulate over time. Don’t sit around waiting.
Be there to actually witness the fruits of your work.
13. Dietary fat doesn’t make you fat
There has been a war on fat for decades. You must understand that the foods the human race has eaten for 1,000s of years, are actually good for you.
Eat a lot of animal fat.
14. Sugar doesn’t make you fat either
Besides what the keto-people tell you, sugar (especially from fruits) has its place in your diet. Use it to fuel your workouts. Or as a treat after a hard week.
Embrace balance.
15. Love yourself first
Before you can give yourself to the world, you must come to terms with yourself. Understand your flaws. Embrace your qualities. Stay on a constant search for improvement.
Admire the man in the mirror.
16. Put yourself first
Guess who the most important person in your life is? Not your mom. Not your girlfriend. I dare to say not even your kid.
It is you.
By never claiming your spot, you will have nothing left to give.
17. Procrastination is your biggest enemy
Your happiness, your progress, your success. They will all suffer massively if you constantly put off the work. Learn to become disciplined.
Stagnation = decline.
18. Your urges are your second biggest
Besides what society wants you to believe, the best things in life are not binge drinking, casual sex, and gorging food. In fact, they will make your life worse if you aren’t careful.
Instead, build something worth living for.
19. Money isn’t evil
It is what you make of it. Determine how much money is enough for you. And once you did, do everything in your power to achieve that number as quickly as possible.
Use your money to buy freedom, not goods.
20. Respect is earned, not given
As with everything in life, if you want it you have to go and get it. Achieve great things, and people will view you as such. Achieve absolutely nothing, and people will treat you as such.
Act accordingly.
